Our family experienced travel troubles and delays, so we unfortunately missed the first day of meals, experiences, etc. but once we arrived we enjoyed our trip.
The first hotel (Hotel Mirage) in Milan was comfortable, but small. The breakfast there was our favorite every morning. We quickly grew tired of going to the same restaurant (Oasi) every evening for dinner but it was nice how close it was to walk to.
The soccer training sessions at Inter Milan were great and of course one of the highlights while on the trip. Our son very much appreciated being able to tour the Inter Milan HQ and see all of the trophies and other things in the building including the pitch on the roof.
We could have done one day less in Milan, even one half day less in Milan, so that we could get to Verona sooner. Verona was very much our favorite place to visit. We did an afternoon and evening to Lake Garda and that was beautiful! We also enjoyed the walking tour in Verona and could have used more time there to explore. More time in Verona would have been perfect!
The Verona hotel was excellent - we enjoyed having a bit more space and the lobby and outdoor space was large to accommodate our group to hang out in the evenings. Breakfast was nice as well.
The soccer training session at Chievo Verona was fun as well, but it went too quick because there was only one session. We did have a friendly with one of their academy teams, but it wasn’t controlled enough - their boys were extremely rough and our boys left with bruises and cuts. It would have been nice to have it actually be friendly. Another training session would have been nice as well.
The last day/evening felt wasted. Several families departed early and we had to find our own way to Verona for free time. We left and were taken early afternoon to go to a hotel in Milan near the airport. It was horrible! It was a very unfortunate way to end the trip. Only a few families were present, the hotel was HOT - no A/C, there was nothing around the hotel to walk to or do, and the rooms were also extremely HOT. The keycards didn’t work and we felt stuck like we couldn’t go do anything. It would have been better to stay in Verona longer and arrive at this hotel before bedtime, or just plan the day and evening much differently. Very sad way to end the trip.
Overall, what truly made our trip excellent was our local guide, Alberto Cattell. He was hands down superior, 5 stars, absolutely awesome! He was friendly and engaging, kind and helpful, and fun. He had so much knowledge to share, as well as tips to local must see places and restaurants. He played with the boys at some of the soccer training sessions and was interactive in a fun way. He was adored by the boys and parents; we truly were sad to leave and say goodbye to him. I honestly believe that had we had a different guide during the week, our trip would not have been what it was. He made every aspect easy, comfortable, and stress-free. He became a friend throughout the week.
